Hunter x Hunter (Japanese: ハンター×ハンター, Hepburn: Hantā Hantā) is widely regarded as the "deconstructionist masterpiece" of the Shonen genre. Created by the legendary Yoshihiro Togashi (also the creator of YuYu Hakusho), it is famous for its extreme intellectual depth, subverting classic tropes, and a power system that is arguably the most balanced and complex in all of fiction.

The story begins with Gon Freecss, a 12-year-old boy who discovers that the father he thought was dead is actually a world-renowned Hunter—an elite licensed professional specializing in everything from deep-sea exploration to assassination. Gon leaves his home on Whale Island to take the grueling Hunter Exam, hoping to find his father. Along the way, he befriends Killua Zoldyck (an heir to a family of assassins), Kurapika (the last survivor of a massacred clan), and Leorio (an aspiring doctor).
