Goodnight Punpun
Goodnight Punpun (Japanese: おやすみプンプン, Hepburn: Oyasumi Punpun) is a psychological Seinen masterpiece created by Inio Asano. Serialized from 2007 to 2013, it is widely regarded as one of the most structurally unique and emotionally devastating manga ever written, exploring themes of depression, trauma, and the loss of innocence.
The story follows the life of Punpun Onodera, from his elementary school years through his early twenties. While the world around him is drawn in breathtakingly realistic and detailed art, Punpun and his family are depicted as stylized, bird-like doodles. This visual contrast serves as a psychological mirror: as Punpun's mental state deteriorates and he struggles with the complexities of adulthood, his physical form shifts into increasingly abstract and distorted shapes, reflecting his internal self-loathing and disconnection from reality.
