Parasyte
Parasyte (Japanese: 寄生獣, Hepburn: Kiseijū, lit. "Parasitic Beasts") is a foundational Sci-Fi Horror and Psychological Thriller created by Hitoshi Iwaaki. Originally serialized from 1988 to 1995, it is a timeless classic that explores the nature of humanity, environmentalism, and the instinct for survival. Despite its age, it saw a massive resurgence in global popularity following its 2014 anime adaptation, Parasyte -the maxim-.
The story begins when silent, worm-like alien spores fall to Earth. These Parasites are driven by a single instinct: to burrow into a human's brain and take over their body, effectively replacing the host to feed on other humans. The protagonist, Shinichi Izumi, is a high school student who manages to stop a parasite from reaching his brain by tying a cord around his arm. As a result, the creature matures in his right hand instead. The two—Shinichi and the analytical, cold-blooded parasite he names Migi (Japanese for "Right")—are forced into a reluctant symbiosis to survive against other, fully-matured parasites who view them as a threat.
