Demon Slayer (EN)
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (Japanese: 鬼滅の刃, Hepburn: Kimetsu no Yaiba) is a global cultural phenomenon written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge. It is widely regarded as the series that revitalized the classic "Shonen" formula through its emotional sincerity, high-stakes combat, and a record-breaking anime adaptation that set a new standard for visual storytelling.
The story is set in Taisho-era Japan and follows Tanjiro Kamado, a kind-hearted boy who returns home to find his family slaughtered by a demon. The only survivor is his younger sister, Nezuko, who has been transformed into a demon herself. Despite her transformation, Nezuko still shows signs of human emotion and protectiveness. Tanjiro joins the Demon Slayer Corps, an ancient organization dedicated to protecting humanity, with two goals: to find a cure for Nezuko and to hunt down the progenitor of all demons, Muzan Kibutsuji.

Key Characteristics & Tropes
-
Breathing Styles: The primary power system where slayers use specific breathing patterns to enhance their physical capabilities and mimic elemental forces (e.g., Water, Flame, Thunder). While these elements are visual metaphors for the swordsmanship, they are depicted with stunning artistry.
-
The Hashira (Pillars): The nine most powerful swordsmen in the Demon Slayer Corps. Each Hashira is a master of a distinct breathing style and possesses a unique, often eccentric personality.
-
Sympathetic Villains: One of the series' hallmarks is exploring the tragic human pasts of the demons Tanjiro slays. This adds a layer of melancholy to the action, as Tanjiro often prays for their souls after they are defeated.
-
Nezuko’s Box: Because demons are killed by sunlight, Tanjiro carries Nezuko in a specially crafted wooden box on his back during the day, creating a unique visual icon for the series.
