Yu Yu Hakusho
Yu Yu Hakusho (Japanese: 幽☆遊☆白書, Hepburn: Yū Yū Hakusho) is a legendary Supernatural Action and Shonen masterpiece created by Yoshihiro Togashi (who later created Hunter x Hunter). Serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1990 to 1994, it is considered one of the "Big Three" of the 90s alongside Dragon Ball and Slam Dunk, defining the "tournament arc" trope for an entire generation.
The story follows Yusuke Urameshi, a 14-year-old street-toughened delinquent with a heart of gold. In a shocking subversion of tropes, he dies in the very first chapter while saving a young boy from a car accident. Because the Spirit World didn't expect a troublemaker like him to perform a selfless act, they have no place for his soul. After passing a series of tests, he is resurrected as a Spirit Detective. Tasked by Koenma (the toddler-like son of the Spirit World's ruler), Yusuke must investigate supernatural occurrences in the human world alongside his rival-turned-best-friend Kuwabara and two demons with tragic pasts, Kurama and Hiei.
