Tales of Demons and Gods
Tales of Demons and Gods (Chinese: 妖神记, Pinyin: Yāo Shén Jì) is a seminal work in the Xianxia (cultivation) genre, written by Mad Snail (Fa Biao De Wo Niu). It is credited with introducing a generation of international readers to the concepts of rebirth, soul realms, and demon spirits through its incredibly popular manhua adaptation.
The story follows Nie Li, the strongest Demon Spiritualist in his previous life, who lost his life in a battle against the Sage Emperor and six deity-ranked beasts. However, his soul is reborn in his 13-year-old self, back when he was the weakest student in his class at Holy Orchid Institute. Armed with the vast knowledge of his past life—including legendary cultivation techniques and the locations of hidden treasures—Nie Li sets out to protect his home, Glory City, and the woman he loves from the impending destruction he knows is coming.
