Haikyu
Haikyu!! (Japanese: ハイキュー!!, Hepburn: Haikyū!!) is a powerhouse sports manga series written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate. Serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2012 to 2020, it is widely considered the "gold standard" of modern sports anime, celebrated for its realistic portrayal of volleyball, its infectious optimism, and its masterful character development.
The story follows Shoyo Hinata, a short middle schooler who falls in love with volleyball after seeing a legendary player known as the "Little Giant" compete on TV. Despite his lack of height and a formal team, Hinata trains relentlessly. In his first and only middle school tournament, his team is crushed by the "King of the Court," the genius setter Tobio Kageyama. Hinata vows to defeat Kageyama in high school, only to discover they have both enrolled at the same school: Karasuno High. Now, the former rivals must combine Kageyama's pinpoint accuracy with Hinata's explosive speed to create a "Freak Quick" attack and restore Karasuno to its former glory as a national powerhouse.
