Kuroshitsuji
Kuroshitsuji (Japanese: 黒執事, Hepburn: Kuroshitsuji), known in English as Black Butler, is a dark fantasy and supernatural mystery manga series written and illustrated by Yana Toboso. Since its debut in 2006, it has become a staple of the "Gothic" subgenre, famous for its Victorian aesthetic, meticulous historical detail, and the complex, morbid contract between a vengeful boy and his demonic servant.
The story is set in Victorian-era London and follows Ciel Phantomhive, the twelve-year-old (later thirteen) head of the prestigious Phantomhive family and the owner of a massive toy empire. Known as the "Queen's Watchdog," Ciel is tasked with investigating the gritty, supernatural underworld of London. However, Ciel’s success is fueled by a dark secret: after his parents were murdered and he was tortured by a cult, he summoned a demon to save him. He traded his soul for a contract—the demon, taking the name Sebastian Michaelis, must serve as Ciel's loyal butler and protect him until Ciel achieves his revenge. Once the revenge is complete, Sebastian will consume Ciel’s soul.
