Chainsaw Man (EN)
Chainsaw Man (Japanese: チェンソーマン, Hepburn: Chensōman) is a genre-defying dark fantasy masterpiece created by Tatsuki Fujimoto. It is famous for its unpredictable storytelling, cinematic paneling, and a raw, gritty atmosphere that subverts almost every traditional trope of the Shonen Jump genre.
The story follows Denji, a destitute young man living in extreme poverty, working off his deceased father's massive debt to the Yakuza by hunting Devils. His only companion is Pochita, the "Chainsaw Devil," a small canine-like creature with a chainsaw blade for a nose. After being betrayed and murdered by his employers, Denji merges with Pochita to survive, becoming "Chainsaw Man." He is soon recruited by Makima, a high-ranking official in the Public Safety Devil Hunters, who offers him a life of comfort—food, shelter, and a job—in exchange for his service.

Key Characteristics & Tropes
-
The "Unorthodox" Protagonist: Denji isn't motivated by saving the world or becoming a king. His goals are simple, primal, and deeply human: eating three meals a day and experiencing physical intimacy. This makes him one of the most relatable and tragic leads in modern manga.
-
Devil System: Devils are born from human fears (e.g., the Bat Devil, the Gun Devil, the Control Devil). The more a concept is feared, the more powerful the corresponding Devil becomes.
-
Contracts: Humans can gain supernatural abilities by making contracts with Devils, usually at a steep price, such as sacrificing body parts, years of life, or loved ones.
-
Cinematic Pacing: Tatsuki Fujimoto uses a "film-like" approach to his art, often utilizing silent panels, wide shots, and subtle body language to tell a story rather than relying on heavy dialogue.
