Captain Tsubasa
Captain Tsubasa (Japanese: キャプテン翼, Hepburn: Kyaputen Tsubasa) is the most influential sports manga in history, created by Yoichi Takahashi. Since its debut in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1981, it has inspired real-life football legends like Lionel Messi, Zinedine Zidane, and Kylian Mbappé to take up the sport.
The story follows Tsubasa Ozora, a boy whose life was saved by a football as a toddler (it cushioned his fall from a truck). His motto, "The ball is my friend," drives him from his elementary school days in Nankatsu to the professional leagues in Brazil and Europe. Along the way, he faces legendary rivals like the fierce Kojiro Hyuga, the "Glass Prince" Jun Misugi, and his best partner, Taro Misaki. Tsubasa’s ultimate dream is to lead Japan to win the FIFA World Cup.
