Akame ga Kill! (Japanese: アカメが斬る!, Hepburn: Akame ga Kiru!) is a Japanese dark fantasy manga series written by Takahiro and illustrated by Tetsuya Tashiro. Serialized from 2010 to 2016, it gained a reputation as one of the most ruthless "shonen" series of its era, famous for its "no-one-is-safe" approach to its cast.

The story follows Tatsumi, a naive young swordsman who sets out for the Capital to raise money for his impoverished village. However, he quickly discovers that the heart of the Empire is a den of unimaginable corruption, ruled by a child Emperor controlled by the sadistic Minister Honest. After witnessing the horrific depravity of the upper class firsthand, Tatsumi is recruited by Night Raid, a secret assassination branch of the Revolutionary Army. Armed with Teigu (Imperial Arms)—ancient, powerful relics that often require a "life-or-death" compatibility—Tatsumi and his new comrades, including the titluar elite swordswoman Akame, wage a bloody guerrilla war to overthrow the Empire, knowing full well that assassins rarely live to see the peace they fight for.
