Haikyu (EN)
Haikyu!! (Japanese: ハイキュー!!, Hepburn: Haikyū!!) is a sports masterpiece written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate. It is globally acclaimed for its incredible character development, realistic portrayal of volleyball, and its ability to make every match feel like a life-or-death battle without ever relying on "superpowers."
The story follows Shoyo Hinata, a short student who falls in love with volleyball after seeing a legendary player known as the "Little Giant." Despite his lack of height and a devastating defeat in his only middle school match at the hands of the "King of the Court," Tobio Kageyama, Hinata joins the Karasuno High School volleyball team. To his shock, his sworn rival Kageyama is now his teammate. The two must set aside their differences to create an unstoppable "freak quick" attack and return the "fallen powerhouse" Karasuno to its former glory.

Key Characteristics & Tropes
-
The "Freak Quick": The iconic combination between Hinata’s explosive speed/jumping and Kageyama’s pinpoint setting accuracy. It becomes the foundation of Karasuno's offensive strategy.
-
"Flight" Imagery: Since Karasuno's mascot is the crow, the series heavily utilizes the theme of "flying" to represent the team's evolution and Hinata's struggle against his height.
-
Realistic Sports Mechanics: Unlike many sports anime, Haikyu!! stays grounded in real volleyball tactics, rotations, and terminology. Even the most spectacular plays are based on real-world athletic feats.
-
No True "Villains": One of the series' greatest strengths is that opposing teams are given deep backstories and motivations. Readers often find themselves cheering for the rivals just as much as the protagonists.
