ACT AGE
Act-Age (Japanese: アクトエイジ, Hepburn: Akuto Eiji) is a critically acclaimed yet controversial psychological drama manga written by Tatsuya Matsuki and illustrated by the incredibly talented Shiro Usazaki. Serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2018 to 2020, it was hailed as one of the most unique titles in the magazine's history for focusing on the intense, often dark world of method acting rather than traditional battle shōnen tropes.
The story follows Kei Yonagi, a high school girl living in poverty who supports her two younger siblings. When she auditions for a major talent agency, she catches the eye of the brilliant but eccentric director Sumiji Kuroyama. Yonagi possesses a rare and dangerous talent for method acting: she immerses herself so deeply in her past traumas to portray emotions that she often loses her sense of self. Kuroyama takes her under his wing, intending to polish this "raw diamond" into a world-class actress, even if it means pushing her to the brink of her sanity.
