Vinland Saga
Vinland Saga (Japanese: ヴィンランド・サガ, Hepburn: Vinrando Saga) is a monumental Historical Epic and Seinen masterpiece created by Makoto Yukimura (Planetes). Since its debut in 2005, it has earned a reputation as one of the most profound explorations of violence, redemption, and the true meaning of a "warrior" in all of fiction.
Inspired by the historical Sagas of Icelanders, the story begins in 1013 AD during the Viking invasion of England. It follows Thorfinn, the son of a legendary warrior named Thors. After witnessing his father’s cold-blooded murder by the mercenary leader Askeladd, a young Thorfinn joins Askeladd's band—not out of loyalty, but to earn the right to a duel of honor. Driven by pure, blinding rage, Thorfinn spends a decade as a hollow killing machine, only to have his entire worldview shattered when the object of his revenge is taken away from him.
