Sousou no Frieren
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Japanese: 葬送のフリーレン, Hepburn: Sōsō no Furīren) is a masterpiece of the "Post-Fantasy" genre, written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe. It has taken the world by storm for its melancholic yet beautiful exploration of time, legacy, and the human condition.
Unlike most fantasy stories that end with the defeat of the Demon King, Frieren begins there. The story follows the elven mage Frieren, who, alongside the Hero Himmel and their party, has just saved the world. As an elf with a lifespan of thousands of years, the ten-year journey was a mere blink of an eye to her. It is only after the death of her human companions that she realizes she missed the chance to truly "know" them. The narrative follows her new journey to the "resting place of souls" to speak with the late Hero Himmel once more, while mentoring a new generation of mages.
