Blue Lock
Blue Lock (Japanese: ブルーロック, Hepburn: Burū Rokku) is a high-octane Sports Thriller written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. Serialized in Weekly Shōnen Magazine since 2018, it famously threw out the "power of friendship" trope common in sports manga, replacing it with a philosophy of absolute egoism.
The story begins after Japan's disastrous exit from the 2018 World Cup. The Japan Football Federation hires the eccentric and mysterious coach Ego Jinpachi, who creates a revolutionary training facility called "Blue Lock." His goal: to produce the world's greatest, most selfish "egoist" striker. Three hundred high school forwards, including the protagonist Yoichi Isagi, are locked in this prison-like facility. If they fail, they are permanently banned from ever representing Japan. It’s a "Battle Royale" where only the most obsessed survive.
