Black lagoon
Black Lagoon (Japanese: ブラック・ラグーン, Hepburn: Burakku Ragūn) is the ultimate Seinen Action masterpiece, written and illustrated by Rei Hiroe. Since its debut in 2002 in Sunday Gene-X, it has defined the "Gun-Fu" and "Noir" aesthetic in manga, drawing heavy inspiration from 90s Hong Kong action cinema and Hollywood heist films.
The story follows Rokuro Okajima, a mundane Japanese salaryman who is kidnapped by the Lagoon Company, a group of mercenary pirates operating out of the lawless Southeast Asian city of Roanapur. When his corporate bosses abandon him to die, Rokuro (now dubbed "Rock") decides to leave his boring life behind and join the crew. He finds himself caught between the world of light and the world of darkness, acting as the translator and negotiator for a team of hardened criminals: the terrifyingly skilled "Two-Hands" gunslinger Revy, the pragmatic leader Dutch, and the tech wizard Benny.
