Tokyo Ghoul
Tokyo Ghoul (Japanese: 東京喰種, Hepburn: Tōkyō Gūru) is a seminal Dark Fantasy, Horror, and Psychological Tragedy created by Sui Ishida. Serialized in Weekly Young Jump from 2011 to 2018 (including its sequel, Tokyo Ghoul:re), it is one of the most influential manga of the 2010s, famous for its hauntingly beautiful "watercolor" art style and its agonizing exploration of identity and moral ambiguity.
The story is set in a modern-day Tokyo where "Ghouls"—beings that look human but can only survive by eating human flesh—live in secret among the population. The protagonist, Ken Kaneki, is a shy, book-loving college student who goes on a date with a woman named Rize, only to discover she is a Ghoul. After a freak accident kills Rize and leaves Kaneki critically injured, her organs are transplanted into him to save his life. Kaneki wakes up as a One-Eyed Ghoul, a half-human hybrid who belongs to neither world, forced to navigate the predatory underground of Ghoul society while hunted by the CCG (Commission of Counter Ghoul).
